OnePiece Labs, the premier incubator program for web3 startups, and Uplandme, Inc. the metaverse super app, today announced a partnership to bring the developer ecosystem into the web3 metaverse. OnePiece Labs is a trading name of Upblocks LLC.
The strategic alliance will bring together the expertise of OnePiece Labs in funding promising decentralized projects with Upland's experience in building and scaling web3 technologies in the Metaverse sector.
A year ago, Spotify was reported by The Financial Times to be planning to somehow incorporate NFTs into its service.
At the time, the platform was also hiring for roles requiring Web3 expertise, whice hinted at possible ambitions to start taking its first steps in the world of NFTs, blockchain technology, crypto and the metaverse.
This past week, those ambitions have been realized, via a new pilot around its first-ever NFT-gated playlists.
Playboy’s Web3 lead Liz Suman said at NFT Paris last week that the virtual world is slated for launch this year, and that there will be ways to get in even for users who aren’t part of the magazine brand’s Rabbitar community.
“It’s been the plan all along for the Rabbitars to be the VIPs of the MetaMansion experience,” Suman, who is VP for art, editorial, and Web3 at the 70-year-old media brand, said.
Alchemy Launches Dapp Builder
The goal of mass adoption is a common refrain for the blockchain industry, but there’s a steep learning curve in onboarding the masses to Web3. Alchemy hopes its new Create Web3 Dapp or CW3D platform will help bring more people into decentralized technologies.
“Our overall mission and vision is to bring blockchain or Web3 to a billion people,” Elan Halpern, Product Manager at Alchemy said.

This new influx of funds will be utilized to achieve several objectives, including expanding the team, integrating additional non-fungible token (NFT) collections into the game, and creating partnerships with various brands and intellectual-property holders.

Trip Hawkins, one of the founders of Electronic Arts (EA), announced he was joining the Web3 gaming startup Games for a Living (GFAL) as co-founder and chief strategist.

French fashion house Lacoste has filed trademark applications related to non-fungible tokens and metaverse. The luxury fashion house intends to launch virtual products for its new Champs-Elysee line of apparel, among other products.
According to data submitted, Lacoste anticipates launching downloadable virtual products, including footwear, eyewear, sports gear, covers for mobile phones, jewelry, watches and accessories, sports equipment, and toys, among others.
DE Star, a fashion startup founded by Eva(Juewei) Liu, a Parsons alumni, has raised $700k in seed round financing with the goal of developing a Web3 Asian-futuristic phygital co-creation fashion label.
The company aims to reduce the divide between customers and brands by leveraging web3 technology. DE Star’s upcoming first drop will be an NFT created by global-renowned artists, providing holders with access to future drops, airdrop benefits, voting rights, and phygital exclusive events.
Polybase raises $2M preseed
Decentralized database developer, Polybase has raised $2million pre-seed in a round led by 6th Man Ventures.
Created last year, 2022 by Gandhi and Calum Moore, Polybase is leveraging zero-knowledge technologies to create a decentralized database. According to Gandhi, the majority of current web3 developers use web2 or centralized databases to store structured data, which is counterproductive to their intended usage.
However, the objective of Polybase “is to become the default database for web3, enabling developers to create trustless automated decentralized applications at a cost 1000x less than on-chain storage,” he continued.

Salesforce, the cloud-based CRM software giant, is breaking into Web3 to help future-proof its clients and connect with a new generation of customers.
“It’s a new kind of relationship with a new generation of customers, with–at its heart–a new set of data,” the co-founder of Salesforce's Web3 studio Marc Mathieu said.
